Terms of Use — Tallshot

1. Agreement

By installing or using Tallshot ("the extension"), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install it, or remove it from chrome://extensions.

Tallshot is provided by ownCoder ("we", "us"). It is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google LLC.

2. What Tallshot is

Tallshot is a browser extension that captures web pages as images, lets you annotate and redact them, and exports them to your device. All processing happens locally in your browser. See the Privacy Policy for details.

3. Licence

Tallshot is released under the MIT Licence.

You may use it for personal or commercial purposes, free of charge; view, modify and redistribute the source, subject to the MIT terms; and use the screenshots you create however you wish.

Trademark note. The MIT Licence covers the code. The name "Tallshot" and the Tallshot logo are not licensed for use in a way that implies endorsement of, or affiliation with, a modified version. Fork the code freely; please rename your fork.

4. Free of charge

Version 1.0 is free in full. There is no watermark, no account, no capture limit, and no export limit.

If a paid tier is introduced in future, it will add new capability. Features available free in version 1.0 will remain free. This commitment is recorded in the project's public documentation and enforced in the source.

5. Acceptable use

You are responsible for what you capture and what you do with it.

You agree not to use Tallshot to:

Screenshots and copyright. Capturing a page does not grant you rights to its content. Web pages are frequently protected by copyright. Whether your use is lawful — fair use, fair dealing, or another exception — depends on your jurisdiction and your purpose. That assessment is yours to make.

Redaction is a tool, not a guarantee. The blur and pixelate tools are provided to help you remove sensitive information before sharing. Pixelate destroys the underlying pixels; blur obscures them. Neither is a certified data-sanitisation method, and neither substitutes for your own review. Always check an exported image before sharing it. We accept no liability for information disclosed in an image you exported.

6. No warranty

Tallshot is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We specifically do not warrant that:

Known limitations are documented publicly in the project README and are considered part of these terms by reference.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, business, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of Tallshot — including damages arising from a failed, incomplete or incorrect capture, or from information disclosed in an image you exported.

Because Tallshot is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims is limited to zero, or to the amount you actually paid us for the extension, whichever is greater.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities. Where that is the case, the above applies to the fullest extent permitted, and nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

8. Your content

You retain all rights to every screenshot you create. We claim no ownership, licence or interest in your captures — we never receive them.

9. Third-party websites

Tallshot operates on pages you choose to visit. We do not control those pages, do not endorse their content, and are not responsible for them.

10. Availability and changes

We may update, change or discontinue Tallshot at any time. Because the source is public under the MIT Licence, you are free to continue using or maintaining any version yourself.

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date and recorded in the project's CHANGELOG. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.

11. Termination

You may stop using Tallshot at any time by removing it from chrome://extensions. Sections 5 through 9 survive termination.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here removes any mandatory consumer protection you have under the law of your own country of residence.

13. Severability

If any provision is held unenforceable, it is modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions stay in full effect.

Chrome is a trademark of Google LLC. Tallshot is an independent project with no affiliation to Google LLC. Other product names mentioned in project documentation are the trademarks of their respective owners and are referenced factually.
