Privacy Policy

ClearAmp collects no data about you. It has no way to send anything anywhere.

The short version

ClearAmp does not collect any data about you. None. It never sends anything anywhere, because it has no way to send anything anywhere.

The extension makes zero network requests. There is no server, no analytics, no telemetry, no account, no advertising, no affiliate links, and no third-party code of any kind bundled into it.

What ClearAmp stores

ClearAmp stores your settings in your own browser, using Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local). That data never leaves your computer.

It consists of:

• Your default starting volume.
• Whether Night Mode, Voice Boost and Mono should be on by default.
• The hostnames of any sites you explicitly asked ClearAmp to remember, together with the volume settings you chose for them — and only if you turned that feature on.

That is the complete list. You can delete all of it at any time from Options → Reset → Reset everything, or by uninstalling the extension.

ClearAmp does not use chrome.storage.sync, so your settings are not copied to other machines or into your Google account.

What ClearAmp can and cannot see

ClearAmp installs with three permissions — activeTab, scripting and storage — none of which display a warning, because none of them give access to your browsing.

• It cannot read your browsing history. It never requests the tabs permission.
• It cannot read the pages you visit. It has no host permissions at install time.
• It does nothing until you ask it to. No part of ClearAmp runs on any web page until you open the popup or press its keyboard shortcut. When you do, it works on that one tab, and that access ends when you navigate away.
• It reads the address of the current tab only when you use "Remember this site", and only to know which site you meant. That hostname is stored locally and used for nothing else.

You can verify all of this before installing: Chrome shows the permissions an extension requests at install time, and ClearAmp's list is empty of warnings.

The optional permission

If you turn on "Remember this site", ClearAmp asks Chrome for permission to run on that one website. It needs this because re-applying your settings automatically means running when the page loads, before you have clicked anything — which is precisely what activeTab is designed to prevent.

• Chrome asks you, per site, and you can say no.
• Saying no leaves every other feature working normally.
• You can revoke it at any time in ClearAmp's Options, or in Chrome's own extension settings.
• Even with this permission granted, ClearAmp still reads nothing from the page and still sends nothing anywhere. It only adjusts audio.

What ClearAmp does with audio

ClearAmp processes audio locally, inside your browser, using the browser's built-in Web Audio engine. Audio is never recorded, never stored, never uploaded, and never transmitted. It is adjusted as it plays and then it is gone.

Data sharing

There is nothing to share. ClearAmp does not sell data, does not transfer data to third parties, and does not use data for creditworthiness or lending decisions — because it does not have any data.

Children

ClearAmp is suitable for all audiences and collects no information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If ClearAmp's data practices ever change, this policy will be updated before the change ships, and the "Last updated" date will change. Any future version that collected data would require a new permission, which Chrome would show you.
